Need Help in Nutrition - I Didn't Realize How Much Of a Change It Would Be - My Mom's 88

Hi, I'm a new one on the block. We just recently moved my mom in with us. I knew it would be a hard transition for us both but I guess I didn't realize how much.

She's 88 and lived alone since my dad died, about 17 years. We tried to get her to move in with us sooner but she wouldn't. Now I take care of her. She's very frail and uses a walker and has pulmonary emphasemia (can't spell it).

3 Problem areas: 1. Do you have any natural rememdies for coughing. She coughs a lot but strong codiene cough meds make her hallucinate. 2. She doesn't sleep at night much. Edlerly are so like children in medicine doses that I'm afraid to try to get her an Rx for sleep. Any natural remedies. 3. Nutritional needs - discussed below.

I guess the most difficult part right now is getting her to eat. She eats like a bird. She gets sick if she doesn't eat. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on nutritional milk shakes and any recipes for like vegetable soups, or ways to cook meats so they are tender for her to eat. She has most of her teeth but they are so spaced out that she doesn't have much chewing strength.

Well, sorry it's so long. Any feed-back would be great. By the way I am 47 and an only child.
