Dear Reader, I am a seventy-eight year old widow who decided that keeping up a house and yard were more than I wanted to do. Me, who always said I wanted to be independent, to play my music as loud as I wanted, and to go out in the yard whenever I felt like it. This was before I visited a retirement community. You'd be surprised what's available out there. Take a look for yourself! I found this beautiful area where the buildings were surrounded by trees. No matter what window you looked out, the view was glorious and satisfying. What's more, everything inside was equally gratifying. No more calling the electrician, the painter, the roofer, the plumber, the heating and cooling man, the snow shoveler, the lawn man, the yard and tree man. I could just shut the door to my apartment and go on vacation. You might ask "will you still have your privacy?" I feel certain I will when I want, yet there are golden opportunities to join others in hobbies, handicrafts, cards, gardening, parties, picnics, you name it. Taking advantage of evening meals in the dining room will allow me to become acquainted and make new friends. Enclosed garages will make it easy to get out and see my friends and do all the things I have always done. Now, I'll have to get into gear and get rid of much that I have needlessly saved! Grandma |
