A Good News / Bad News Look at Getting Older and Being Alone

Dear Reader:

Once again I am writing of being a seventy-nine year old widow.

The bad news is you feel grief and you miss having someone by your side. It was easier having a spouse to share your burden. The good times were even better -- you enjoyed a happy joke, a book, or a TV program! Yes, companionship lightens even the darkest days.

The good news is your friends are your best companions and they're waiting to try new things with you. Consider yourself blessed with independence. You no longer have to spend so much time discussing what you want to do. For that matter, you can say "no" when the spirit moves you.

As you get older, you can experiment with new things without worrying about making a mistake. You have nothing to prove to anyone. You won't always be able to do everything as well as you want, but there is pleasure in trying. Remember, if you don't move, you are standing still. That would be very dull and unproductive.

Let life continue to be a challenge and joy!

Grandma
