Physical Therapy

Dear Reader,

You don't realize how much physical therapy rehabilitation can do for you until you give it a try. I had a knee replacement two years ago. Since I live alone away from my family, I went to a nursing home for recovery where they're known for their excellent therapy department. You wouldn't believe the kindness, the perseverance, the patience, the knowledge, and the dedication they put into their work. It's rough going at first, but the reward at the finish is worth it because you can WALK again.

The therapists ease you through the start, giving assistance as you need it. And no way can you shirk your twice daily sessions! The wonderful part is that you can see progress. That is one of the perks, but in addition you can be assigned a happy chore. When's the last time you were told to sit in a comfortable rocking chair and rock with your healing knee for EXERCISE? What a way to go!

The therapists' healing goes beyond the therapy room. Before you are allowed to go home, they go with you to your house to see where and how you live. They point out little things you wouldn't normally think about, like you shouldn't have sliding scatter rugs to trip over, you should have few steps to climb up or go down, and you should have wide open passageways to easily get around. High on the priority list is to have a room where you can continue your assigned exercises daily.

At the end of all this, you get the approval of everyone who has had a part in your recovery. Best of all, the pain is gone!
