Dear Reader, How do you feel about greeting people on the street? To me it gives great pleasure. It lights up my life to get a smile from people, and perhaps speak about the weather. It's interesting to note the different responses you get. Some people are out-going and positive with you, and at the other end are those who are shy and can hardly look at you. With the latter it is especially rewarding to have them smile and respond. Too often we think young people are rude and non-caring, but that is a generalization and many times not true. It's a joy to see their response, and you feel as if you've made a friend. While visiting a son and his family in Anchorage, Alaska I found that I couldn't get anyone to smile or greet me on my many walks. I'll never know why this was. It was so unusual that I wondered if there was something wrong with me! However, it didn't slow me down. You have to realize there are all kinds of people. Accept what is, don't force it, and get on with life. Grandma |
