Dear Reader, Other than the fact that there are many more of us today and that we live longer, is there really a difference for older adults in today's world? Sometimes I think "yes", but other times "no". According to history, most families had three generations living together, often with a spinster aunt. In days gone by, women stayed home to raise the children. Career women of today seem to me like spinsters of the past, so maybe things haven't changed all that much. My grandchildren ask questions that open up my memories, so that I've probably told them more than they wanted to hear! This is good "exercise" for me. Older adults may think it's time to slow down and take it easy, But then we look around and see so many exciting things and we find there's still a lot to learn. How can you just sit there? It's time to get on the bandwagon, learn new things, and don't miss out on anything in this wonderful and sometimes exasperating world! Grandma I just spoke to Grandma about this column, because I wanted to make sure I understood what she was getting at. She said she's feeling a lot more positive about life after taking some more time to recover from her second knee replacement. She emphasized that she doesn't want to live like a spinster. |
