Thoughts About Moving

Dear Reader,

My name has been on a list for an apartment in a retirement community for over a year. It is located in a large wooded area with beautiful lawns. I fell in love with it last year. A good friend of mine lives there now.

Recently, I was delighted to receive a telephone call saying there's an opening. That's when I hit the panic button. How would I manage to get things set up for a move in a month? Would I be able to sell the house, sort out what I wanted to take, buy new furnishings, discard old things, set up a "moving sale", hire movers, and squeeze in time to select wall paper, floor coverings, bathroom fixtures, etc? I lived in my old house thirty-eight years so this is a real task.

I have enjoyed living here and will miss it, but it's really exciting to think about the new place. I know that we bought a number of things to "fill in" when I moved to my original house, but now it's like starting over. Things in the new apartment will match, whereas, growing up in the depression era we didn't have the luxury to worry about that. Thank goodness I see this trait of frugalness in my friends so I don't feel alone.

Spring is coming and I'm looking forward to starting a new era in my life.
