Dear Reader, I last wrote at the time I was getting ready to move into my retirement community. Panic was setting in over all the things that needed to be done. I did survive that, but then "settling in" panic developed. When empty, my apartment appeared large and had seemingly excellent storage space. Somehow, as I unpacked, the apartment shrank! Where had all my possessions come from? I did manage to squeeze everything in, but now I have the task of trying to remember WHERE I squeezed it into. I'm counting on familiarity and time to help me out on this. I might even discard more things as time goes on. My conclusion has to be that unpacking is more difficult than packing. The compensation is that I am in a beautiful place and area, meeting many nice people, doing new things, and yet still maintaining good friends and continuing former activities. Another thought came to me: don't wait too long to decide about a move. It is so much easier to move when you are physically able to do the work involved. This way you are able to place things as you wish, and not have to abide by someone else's decisions. Grandma |
