Would You Call Lillian a Hero?

Dear Reader,

Someone asked if I have heroes.  I thought this over and decided that I have a friend that I am forever grateful to for having opened my life to enrichment through awareness.

Growing up, many mothers did not drive, and my mother was no exception.  However, she made it possible for me to take advantage of opportunities to go places and see things even though these were deep Depression Era days.  A much older sister of a good friend of mine did drive.  Her name was Lillian.

We lived in a smaller town that was only fifty miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Lillian would invite a friend and include any of her little sister's friends who could get parental consent to attend operas, plays, ballets, symphonies and jazz concerts.  It would be a full day of exciting things as we would arrive in time to window-shop cosmopolitan stores, have lunch at a nice hotel, attend the program of the day, and still get home at a reasonable hour.

Lillian was an English teacher who could well prepare us for what we were going to see and hear, making it  more interesting and understandable.  Because of her generosity and knowledge, I have been able to enjoy my life to the fullest.  With the interest she generated in me, I have been able to add new facets to my life.

A heartful "thank you, Lillian."
