Take Our Parents To Work Day

Work sites come alive in April as young people accompany their parents to "Take Our Daughters to Work Day." We share this important part of our lives with our children to build bridges. We discover each other's interests and demonstrate that we care and want to be involved in their lives.

Let's start a new tradition called "Take Our PARENTS to Work Day." At first, this might sound a little silly. After all, why would our parents want to be involved in our lives? Well,… maybe they would be more willing to open up to us if we opened up to them!

As our parents age, we begin to focus on their lives, prying into their personal affairs and questioning why they do what they do. What about their medical histories? Can we get a hold of their records? How are the finances doing? Can they manage or should we hire a lawyer to take charge?

Just a minute now, let's not get caught in the trap of confusing our parents with our kids. That's not the point of "Take Our Parents to Work Day." The point is, as circumstances require us to be more involved in our parent's lives, we would be wise to maintain some sort of equal balance in sharing of ourselves.

On "Take Our Parents to Work Day" we promise to share this important part of our lives with our parents. We strive to discover each other's interests and demonstrate that we care and want to be involved in each other's lives.
